Special Issue “Nonequilibrium Statistical Mechanics: Methods, Applications and New Trends” in Chaos Solitons & Fractals

The Special Issue titled "Nonequilibrium Statistical Mechanics: Methods, Applications and New Trends" will soon appear in Chaos, Solitons & Fractals (Elsevier, IF 5.3, Q1, #2 journal in JCR Category "PHYSICS, MATHEMATICAL”), follows the recent New Trends in Nonequilibrium Statistical Mechanics 3rd Course – NES2023, held from October 9th to 15th, 2023, in Erice-Sicily, Italy.

This special issue aims to provide new insights into theoretical and experimental approaches to nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, in both classical and quantum systems. We invite you to start preparing your manuscripts for submission. This special issue will be a collection of high-quality articles and short reviews from renowned experts and research groups around the world, including senior and junior researchers working on classical and quantum nonequilibrium systems. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:


- Nonequilibrium statistical mechanics in classical systems
- Nonequilibrium statistical mechanics in quantum systems
- Quantum phase transitions
- Topological phase transitions
- Quantum metrology
- Machine learning
- Quantum algorithms for complex systems

  • In order to facilitate a timely publication schedule, the proposed deadline for all manuscripts to be submitted to the Journal’s electronic submission system is 31 December 2024, and the deadline for all manuscripts to be ready for production (i.e., final decisions made on all manuscripts and communicated to all involved parties) is 31 May 2025 or such later date as may have been approved in advance in writing by Elsevier. 

  • Every author must submit a declaration of competing interests, together with a statement for each article specifying all funding sources for the study (such as pharmaceutical companies or medical communications agencies) and such statements must be included in the final version of the article for Editor’s approval. 

 

Aims and scope

A common phenomenon in the dynamics of out of equilibrium systems is the metastability, and the problem of the lifetime of metastable states involves fundamental aspects of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics. In spite of such ubiquity, the microscopic understanding of metastability and related out of equilibrium dynamics still raise fundamental questions. Stochastic many-body systems, classical and quantum, often display a complex and slow relaxation towards a stationary state. This nonlinear relaxation process in multistable systems is crucial for understanding the transient dynamics in complex physical and biological systems. This Workshop will bring together leading experts and research groups with significant contribution to the contemporary state-of-the-art of nonequilibrium classical and quantum systems, working towards the development of new quantum technologies. Moreover, aim of this meeting is to bring together scientists interested to the challenging problems connected with the dynamics of nonequilibrium multistable systems from both theoretical and experimental point of view, within an interdisciplinary context. The conference will be a discussion forum to promote new ideas in this fertile field of research, and in particular new trends such as out-of-equilibrium systems, high-Tsuperconductivity, quantum phase transitions, topological phase transitions, quantum metrology, machine learning and quantum algorithms for complex systems.
